591 couples tie nuptial knots in Sonbhadra

 

Robertsganj (Sonbhadra): As many as 591 couples ties nuptial knots at a group marriage ceremony organized by the labour department under ‘Kanya Vivah Sahayata Yojna’ at Robertsganj in Sonbhadra district on Saturday.

The newly wedded couples belong to the three districts including Sonbhadra (287), Mirzapur (234) and Bhadohi (70) of Vindhyachal division. Among them 575 couples were from Hindu community, while 16 couples belonged to Muslim community.  The marriage was solemnized as per the religious rituals of the both communities.

A sum of Rs 75,000 was transferred directly to the account of each couple, while an amount of Rs 7000 was spent on marriage ceremony of each couple. A total of Rs. 4.85 crore was spent on the marriage ceremony of the daughters of labourers registered with the labour department.

UP Minister Swami Prasad Maurya attended the marriage ceremony and gave blessings to the newly wedded couples. Speaking on the occasion, the minister highlighted the welfare schemes of the central and state governments. The function was also attended by Sonbhadra district magistrate S Rajalingam, MP Pakorilal Kole, MLA Dr Anil Kumar Maurya, BJP district president Ajit Chaubey, Apna Dal (S) district president Satyanarayan Singh Patel, chief development officer Ajay Kumar Dwivedi, additional labour commissioner Sarjuram Sharma, former MLA and chairman of Zila Cooperative Bank Rajendra Singh and others.
