Varanasi: In a major breakthrough the sleuths of the Varanasi unit of the directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) succeeded in nabbing three members of inter-state gang of drug peddlers in Rajdhani Express at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Railway Station (erstwhile Mughalsarai) in Chandauli district on Tuesday night.
In search of their baggage, the DRI personnel recovered 49.240 kg psychotropic substances, which have primarily been confirmed as ‘AMPHETAMINE’ worth of Rs. 14,77,20,000 (Rs. 30 lakh per kg). It was the biggest seizure of ‘Amphetamine’ drugs by Varanasi unit.
“The synthetic drugs are popular as party drugs and consumed in rave party, tend to give the feeling of ‘ecstatic & high’ but dangerously addictive drugs”.
According to reports, after receiving an information that huge quantity of synthetic drugs (narcotics) was being transported by the three persons in Rajdhani Express from New Delhi to Kolkata. Acting swiftly, the team of DRI Varanasi officers comprising senior intelligence officer Anand Rai, Lekh Raj, Mukund Singh and Anant Dwivedi intercepted all the three persons travelling in A-1 Coach of train No.12314 (New Delhi-Sealdah Rajdhani Express). The arrested persons were identified as Riyas Abdul Kalam, resident of Kollam district in Kerala, Vimal Raj and Jumma Khan, both residents of Shivganga district in Tamil Nadu. They were brought to DRI office Varanasi and arrested under the provisions of NDPS Act, 1985.
According to DRI officials, and they were carried the drugs in very professional way in AC coach of the Rajdhani Express. In preliminary investigation, they divulged that the seized drugs were being carried to Kolkata for its planned export to Malaysia by concealing it in cargo packages of ‘Saree’ through Air Customs. The syndicate involved in the trade is reportedly Chennai based. Further investigations are being carried out to nab the other gang members.
