Bail granted to six persons arrested at Beniabagh for protesting against CAA/NRC

Varanasi: All six persons arrested for staging dharna at Beniabag on January 23 in protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Act and proposed National Register of Citizens were granted bail by the special CJM court on Tuesday. 

According to the defence lawyers Anil Kumar Singh and M Khan,  after hearing heir plea the special chief judicial magistrate Surendra Yadav granted bail to Gulam Rasul, Abu Sofian, Amir Suhail of Jaitpura, Mohd Saleh of Ramnagar, Gulshad of Khajuri and Motassir Gani of Mau district on submission of a bond of Rs 25,000 each.  

A group of people including women had tried to staged dharna at Beniabagh on line of Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh, but the prompt police action foiled their plan. The police arrested six of persons, while others managed to escape after gathering of their companions started brick batting from outside the boundary wall.

 
An FIR was lodged at Chowk police station against 32 identified and 400-500 unidentified persons under sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant),114 (abettor present when offence is committed),120(B) (criminal conspiracy), 332 (voluntarily causes hurt to any person being a public servant in the discharge of his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of IPC and 7 CL Act for affecting the peace and law and order in the district. 

 
Police on January 24 had also released the posters containing photographs on 19 other accused persons including six women allegedly involved in same sit-in stir at Beniabagh park. Posters were displayed in different localities and police also announced a reward of Rs 5000 for information about them.
