BHU Professor elected Fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences

Prof. Maya Shankar Singh of the Department of Chemistry, Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University, has been elected as a Fellow of INDIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES, BANGALURU (FASc), in 2020.

Previously, Prof. Singh has also received Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi, (FNA) Fellowship in 2019 and the National Academy of Sciences, India (FNASc) fellowship in 2013.

He is the only faculty member in the Department of Chemistry since its inception to get the all the three academies fellowships of Indian Sciences. These fellowships are given to only those scientists who have made outstanding contributions in their respective field.

Prof. Singh is known as one of the leading researchers in Organic Synthesis specialized in the field of design and development of new synthetic methods for structurally/biologically important molecules and drug intermediates. He has published over 170 research papers in the international journals of high repute. Additionally, he has also published eight review articles and written five prestigious Organic Chemistry Text Books from international publishing houses such as Pearson-Education, Oxford University Press, and Wiley-VCH (Germany).

Prof. Singh earned his M. Sc. and Ph. D. from Banaras Hindu University in 1981 and 1986, respectively. During his sabbatical, he visited University of Arizona, Tucson, USA; Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan, USA; Nagoya Institute of Technology, Nagoya, Japan; Loughborough University Leicestershire, UK; Leicester University, Leicestershire, UK; University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart, Germany; RWTH Aachen University, Aachen, Germany; University of Liverpool, UK; Melbourne, Australia; and University of Gottingen, Germany in different capacities. Additionally, he has also received the CRSI Bronze Medal in 2017.
