Dhrupad Mela concludes amid shower of music

 

Varanasi: The four-day classical music fest -International Dhrupad Mela concluded with the performance seasoned musicians on the occasion of Mahashivratri on Friday. The intermittent rain failed to dampen the spirit of music lovers in attending the music fest organized annually under the auspices of Maharaja Banaras Vidya Mandir Nyas.

The last day’s programme began with the vocal recital by noted musician Pt Kailash Pawar from Jaipur. He was accompanied by promising pakhawaj player Raghuraj Pawar from Jaipur, Pt Jamuna Ballabh Gujarati on harmonium and Aditya Dhanraj Pandey and Deepak Sharma on tanpura.

After vocal recital, Chitrangada Angale from Bhopal performed pakhawaj recital in accompaniment with Jayesh Joshi on pakhawaj and Pt Jamuna Ballabh Gujarati on harmonium. She was followed by vocalist Neelay Ehsan from Delhi. He was accompanied by Ankit Parekh on pakhawaj and Sudha and Vishnu Sharma on tanpura.

Celebrated santoor player Bhajan Sopori enthralled the audience with his performance. He was accompanied by Ankit Parekh on pakhawaj.

The Dhrupad Mela was inaugurated by the erstwhile king of Banaras Maharaja Anant Narayan Singh, convener Mahanth Prof Vishwambhar Nath Mishra and founder member Padma Shri Prof Rajeshwar Acharya on February 18.
