IIT (BHU) to Hold Convocation on November 8

Varanasi: IIT (BHU) is going to organize its eighth convocation on November 8. A total of 81 medals and 17 prizes will be given to students, about 1200 students will be awarded degrees.

on the occasion. The convocation will be attended by the Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ as the chief guest.

According to the IIT (BHU) spokesperson, the convocation is being held under the Centenary Celebrations of the institute. The centenary celebrations began on the day of Basant Panchami in 2018 (February 22, 2018) to commemorate the glorious journey of the institute’s 100 golden years and will continue till the spring of 2020. Over this period, the IIT (BHU) is compiling its last 100 years of travel and assessing its current potential in the major national challenges and its future role as a premier institution in the country.

Many programmes have been planned in the centenary year and some of them have been implemented. The Param Shivaay was inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi at the Institute under the centenary celebrations, a supercomputer of 833 teraflap capacity under the National Supercomputing Mission.  The PM had also released a postage stamp and postage album which had a picture of the main building of the IIT (BHU).

The Uttar Pradesh government has also made IIT (BHU) its major partner in its prestigious defence corridor and the institute has entered into an agreement with the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority. It has also been proposed that the institute will act as a centre for skill development of persons associated with the defence corridor.

IIT (BHU) has been achieving significant achievements since the beginning. Some of the faculty achievements of this year include Dr. Vidya Vinay Karak of Physics Department who received the prestigious INSA Medal for Young Scientist Award for the year 2018. Dr. Vishwanath Dhital received the Maharishi Badrayan Vyas honour of the Government of India from the President for his work in Sanskrit. Prof. Pradyuman Ghosh’s space experiment project was selected by the United Nations. Dr. NS Rajput of Electronics Engineering was awarded the Teaching Innovator Award of MHRD, Government of India.
