Court of Police created in Varanasi

 

Varanasi: Under the police commissionerate system, the courts of police officials has been created in Varanasi to exercise powers of executive magistrates.

According to a press statement issued on Friday from the office of Commissioner of Police, two police officials, assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Nitesh Pratap Singh and ACP Amit Kumar Rai have been given the responsibility to exercise the powers of executive magistrates under the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). A temporary court has been created for this purpose near the main gate of the Reserved Police Lines.

ACP Nitesh Pratap Singh will look after the CrPC matters as an executive magistrate of all police stations in Kashi circle, while the ACP Gyan Prakash Rai will do the same in matters of all police stations in Varuna circle.

Under Section 4 of the Indian Police Act of 1861, the police officials will exercise powers of executive magistrates. The Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) gives some powers to the police officials to regulate law and order. The police commissioners would also have powers of executive magistrate for Goonda Act, Poisons Act and Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act etc.
