Over 34000 new cancer patients registered within three years
Varanasi: On the occasion of the second annual day, Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Centre and Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospitals released statistics on cancer prevalence and management. The hospital also presented details on modern facilities offered to cancer patients in past three years and the future plans.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated both the hospitals on February 19, 2019. Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital offers the facility of 180 beds, while Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Center has the capacity of 350 beds.
As per the data, 34,248 new cancer patient registrations were reported in both the hospitals during May 18, 2018, to January 31, 2021. Around 11,706 surgeries and 3,944 radiotherapies were performed in the same period.
In 2020, when the whole world came to a standstill due to the unfortunate Corona virus Pandemic, not a single patient, was turned away from Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Center and Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital. Despite numerous challenges, both hospitals, not only registered more patients in 2020 than in 2019 but increased the number of patient-centric services. Data suggest that 14,438 new patients were registered in both hospitals in 2020 as compared to 12,292 in 2019. Similarly, 4,098 surgeries were performed in 2019, which rose to 6162 in 2020.
The number of exclusive facilities offered by the hospitals increased parallelly. Some major services launched by the hospital in last few months include; Tovaas Surgery, Mega Prosthesis, Platelet Registry initiated by doctors, RTPCR screening of Covid to ensure hasslefree cancer treatment, amongst others.
Dr. Satyajit Pradhan, Director of Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Center and Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital said, “Our aim is to provide, high-quality cancer treatment to not only Varanasi and it’s surrounding districts but to Uttar Pradesh in entirety. We promise to deliver, state-of-the-art cancer management programs right at the doorstep of the cancer patients of our state.”
Dr. Rajendra A. Badwe, Director, Tata Memorial Center said, “We are committed to our objective of ‘Cancer treatment for all.’ Not a single cancer patient will have to discontinue the treatment due to financial restraints.”
