Varanasi: BSP supremo and former chief minister of UP Mayawati has targeted gun on the Yogi Adityanath government denouncing the arrest on innocent persons in the state during the protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).
In her tweets on Sunday, Mayawati said that many innocent persons were sent to jail without proper investigation in many districts including Bijnor, Sambhal, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Firozabad in the state during CAA/NRC protests.
It is unfortunate and condemnable to send innocent people behind the bars. Demanding immediate release of the arrested persons, she said that the UP government should tender apology for its mistake. The government should also provide financial assistance to the kin of those innocent people who lost their lives during protest.
Mayawati said that investigation of the whole episode is a must, and BSP would submit a memorandum to the UP Governor on January 6 demanding a probe into violent incidents.
