Priyanka meets victims of Sonbhadra massacre

Varanasi: AICC general secretary for eastern UP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met the family members of Sonbhadra massacre victims at Chunar Fort on Saturday. She announced a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh from Congress party to the kin of each killed in the massacre.

The kin of those killed in the indiscriminate firing came to Chunar all the way along from Ubhha village in Sonbhadra district. These people when heard that she got arrested walked through 70 km distance all over night to meet her. They kept crying after seeing her and narrated the ordeal they faced. Priyanka said that the Congress would ensure a grant of Rs. 10 lakh to the kin of each deceased and also help the injured persons. She called upon the party workers to fight for the justice of these people.

As many as 10 persons including three women were killed and 25 others injured in a clash and firing over land dispute at Ubbha village under Murtiya gram panchayat in Ghorawal area of Sonbhadra district on July 17. The critically injured persons were admitted to the Trauma Centre of Banaras Hindu University for treatment.

Priyanka arrived Varanasi on Friday and went to the Trauma Centre to meet the injured persons. Later, she moved to Ubbha village to meet the kin of deceased killed in the firing. But, she was stopped to move forward and detained at Narayanpur in Mirzapur district. She with Congress supporters sat on dharna on the road near the police out post. Later, she was taken to Chunar Fort, where she spent whole night. She left for Delhi after meeting the victims on Saturday afternoon.
