Girl prevented from using toilet on BHU campus.

Varanasi: A girl student of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) was allegedly prevented by the security staff from using the toilet in Mahila Maha Vidyalaya on the campus on Thursday. The girl, who is a student of the Faculty of Arts and also in-charge of the help desk meant for assisting the new students in admission process, made a written complaint to the university authorities demanding proper action in this regard.

According to reports, the girl Archana Kumari has been looking after one of the help desks -BHU Bahujan Help Desk organized by the university’s SC/ST Chattra Karyakram Ayojan Samiti for last five days and assisting the admission seekers.

In her complaint, she alleged that the security staff on duty stopped her when she was going to the MMV to use the toilet. She was not allowed to enter the college despite being the students of the university, she further alleged and added the security staff also showed discriminatory behavior and asked her to go to the hospital to use the toilet. She urged the BHU authorities to take disciplinary and legal action against the security personnel for this act.

However, the BHU administration denied the allegation saying that the girl was only asked not to go to the toilet meant for male. The BHU spokesperson Rajesh Kumar Singh when contacted said that the matter is being looked into. A committee has been constituted to investigate the matter for necessary action.
