To protect and save Mother Ganga, Sadhvi Padmavati of Matri Sadan Ashram Haridwar has been on her Tapasya since December 15, 2019.

Her Ganga Satyagraha is to pressurize the Government to fulfill its own promises.Bhagirathi, Mandakini and Alaknanda are the tributaries of the Holy River Ganga.

The then Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh, during his tenure, had made the flow of river Bhagirathi incessant without any obstruction. On August 20, 2009, Dr.Manmohan Singh canceled three dams, namely Bhairon Ghati, Lohari Nagpala and Pala Maneri, which were proposed to be built over the river Bhagirathi. Due to this critical decision Mother Ganga maintained its uninterruptible flow.

Unfortunately, at present four dams are under various stages of construction. Notably. Supreme Court of India had stayed the construction of dams in the upper reaches of Ganga River. In spite of such instructions from the court the Government is going ahead with its plan. From 22 June 2018, Prof G. D. Agarwal (Swami Gyan Swaroop Sanand ji) initiated his Tapasya (fast unto death) in order to persuade the Government to shelve the dam projects on river Ganga and its tributaries, to formulate a new law for the management and conservation of River Ganga and to form a council of devotees of the river that will ensure the implementation of the law. Unfortunately, his plea went unheard and on the 10 October 2018 , 111th day of his fast he lost his life.

After the lapse of more than six months of the assurance none of the promises were fulfilled compelling Sadhvi Padmavati to undertake Tapasya. Sadhvi ji’s fight is not for her but for the entire humanity and it is duty of all to support her, said Rajendra Singh popularly known as Waterman of India.
