BHU reply fails to satisfy SVDV students, Dharna continues

Varanasi: Being dissatisfied with the response from BHU administration the students of Sanskrit Vidya Dharm Vigyan Faculty continued their dharna in front of the faculty building on the second consecutive day on Tuesday.

These students, who oppose the appointment of Dr. Firoz Khan as an assistant professor at the Sahitya department of the faculty, had ended their 16-day-long dharna on November 22 after university administration assured them to reply their queries within 10 days. They said that earlier the university administration gave reply of first three queries, but they were not satisfactory with the answers.

“The reply of the two remaining question given by the university administration on Tuesday lack documentary proof,” said Shashikant Mishra, an agitating student, and added that the agitation would continue till they get satisfactory reply from the university.

The students had sought reply of five queries from the university administration. Their queries r included – if the procedure in Sahitya department is similar to that of other departments of SVDV faculty, if shortlisting of candidates was done in view of traditional rules (Sanatan Dharm), which rule of UGC was adopted in shortlisting and whether the appointment was done in accordance with the BHU Act.

“While replying the queries the university administration did not provide the proof of the rule under which the appointment was made “ he said adding, “We want to know under why the special status of SVDV in BHU Act (1904, 1906, 1915 and 1969) was altered,”

They also wanted to know who chaired the meeting in which the special status of SVDV was amended.  They questioned why the minutes and comments of the meeting were not attached with the reply. If a non-Hindu cannot become the vice-chancellor of BHU, then how the special status of SVDV was omitted from the Act. The BHU spokesperson Rajesh Singh, when contacted, claimed that the queries of students were replied by the university administration.
