Cop commits suicide in Mughalsarai police station

Varanasi: A police constable Ashutosh Mishra, resident of Banda district, committed suicide by shooting himself with service rifle of his colleague at Mughalsarai Kotwali police station in DDU Nagar in Chandauli district on Wednesday. Reason behind the incident was not known.

According to reports, Ashutosh shot himself outside the barrack of the police station in the morning. After hearing the sound of gunshot, the policemen rushed to the place and found his dead on the ground. The bullet pierced his jaw and head.

Senior police officials including Chandauli SP reached there after getting information. The forensic team was engaged to collect evidence. No suicide note was found in the barrack or in his possession.

Chandauli ASP Prem Chand said that Ashutosh was resting in the barrack after his duty. In the meantime, the head constable Pradeep Pathak went to the toilet after putting his rifle on the bed. Ashutosh took the rifle and shot himself outside the barrack. His family members have been informed. The reason behind the incident was not clear, as no suicide note was found. He had also broken his mobile phone before committing suicide. The CDR of the mobile phone is being examined, he added.

Ashutosh was the constable of 2016 batch, and he was posted at Mughalsarai.
