Varanasi: The district magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma inaugurated ‘Happy Fridge’, and initiative to utilize surplus food left in the kitchen, at Pandeypur crossing on Wednesday.
‘Happy Fridge’ was started by Pandeypur Vyapar Mandal in association with Feeding India in Pandeypur to collect left food from households and supply it to the poor and needy persons.
The DM said that it could be replicated at other places too including ghats, railway station, bus stand and other identified locations. Providing food to the poor and needy has been an Indian since ancient times, he said and exhorted people to come forward to help the poor.
