Plea for ASI survey of Gyanvapi challenged in the court

Varanasi: The Anjuman Intazamia Masajid, Varanasi on Tuesday filed an additional written statement in the civil judge fast track court objecting the appointment of Advocate Vijay Shankar Rastogi as the ‘vaad mitra’ (next friend) of the Ancient Idol of Swambhu Vishweshwar, and also the hearing of his for the survey of entire Gyanwavpi premises by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The court has fixed February 3 as the last date for the opposite party to file its objection/reply.

the secretary of Anjuman Intazamia Masajid, SM Yasin said that in the additional WS the court has been urged not to hear the plea of Rastogi as the ‘next friend’ of the deity as the case is already pending in the High Court. He said that the lower court is not competent to order for the ASI survey of Gyanvapi. Rastogi cannot be appointed as ‘next friend’ of the deity, as he is not eligible for it.


Rastogi, the secretary of Swambhu Jyotirlinga Vishweshwar ‘Vishwanath Nyas, had filed a petition with a plea for representing the Ancient Idol of Swambhu Vishweshwar as ‘next friend’, which was accepted by the civil judge fast track court on October 11, After that he filed a petition in the fast track court on December 10 urging a survey of entire Gyanwavpi premises by the ASI.
