Varanasi reels under intense cold wave

Varanasi: The city has been reeling under intense cold wave and dense fog for a couple of days. The city’s temperature dipped below 10 degree Celsius on Monday, when a fall of 3 degrees in maximum temperature and 1.7 degrees in minimum temperature was recorded. The city recorded 2.3 degree Celsius minimum and 9 degree Celsius maximum temperature.  

In view of intense cold, all schools and intermediate colleges have already closed till January 4, 2020, by the order of the district magistrate. As many as 12 night shelters for the poor have been activated by the Varanasi Municipal Corporation. According to weather forecast by IMD, dense fog will continue till January 5, 2020. Besides, cloudily sky with spells of rain and thundershower are expected from January 1 to 3, 2020.  

As many as four flights from Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport were cancelled on Monday due to dense fog. The airport spokesperson Ranjeet Verma said that the flights including Indigo 713/711 (Kolkata-Varanasi-Mumbai), Indigo 712/716 (Mumbai-Varanasi-Kolkata), Indigo 499 (Varanasi-Bangalore), and Indigo 6635 (Varanasi-Delhi) were cancelled.
