73-year-old hypertensive dies at BHU’s ICU

Varanasi: A 73-year-old patient of COVID-19 died at the intensive care unit of Banaras Hindu University Hospital on Saturday. He was a retired government officer and resident of Lanka area. It was the third death due to COVID-19 in the district. Earlier, a 58-year-old woman had died on May 14 and a trader, who returned from Kolkata, had expired on April 3.

The district magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said that the patient was admitted to the hospital on May 13. He was hypertensive, and having respiratory problems since arrival to L3 Covid hospital of BHU. He was put on ventilator since his arrival in ICU.

Earlier, the woman, resident of Lallapura area, died of acute respiratory infection at the BHU Hospital, where she was admitted on May 4. She had also been suffering from hypothyroidism, hypertension and diabetes for years.

The Kolkata returned trader had died on April 3 at the hospital. He was, however, tested positive when his test report was received on April 4. His wife and daughter-in-law were also tested positive, and they were discharged from the hospital after getting cured.
