39 GTC Martyr cremated in Varanasi

Varanasi: The mortal remains of martyr Laxman BC (22), who had lost his life in an avalanche at the LOC in Tangdhar area of Kupwara sector in Jammu and Kashmir on January 14, were consigned to flames amid full state honour at Harishchandra Ghat here on Sunday. 

Earlier, his body was brought to the 39 Gorkha Training Centre (GTC) by a special plane of Indian Air Force, where a guard of honour was given and wreath laying ceremony was held. Rifleman Laxman, a native of Surkhet in Nepal, could not see his 15-day-old daughter. It was hard for the Army officials and their families to console Laxman’s parents- Nain Bahadur and Kokila.

According to the commandant of 39 GTC Brig (Sena Medal) Hukum Singh Bainsla, Laxman had complete his training two-years ago at 39 GTC and he laid his life at LOC during avalanche on January 14. His body could be recovered two days after the incident.
