Fine imposed for polluting the air

Varanasi: The construction site of Lahartara-Chowkaghat flyover near Varanasi railway station witnesses heavy concentration of dust particles. Similar is the situation at many other sites. The Varanasi unit of UP Pollution Control Board issued notice and imposed fine of Rs. 50,000 on the four agencies each for polluting the air.


Fine was imposed on agencies executing many projects including the Japanese firm executing the JICA supported project for the construction of the International Cooperation and Convention Centre. Two government agencies UP Bridge Corporation Limited and PWD, and a private builder were also imposed fine.  

The real time AQI value in the city recorded at the Central Pollution Control Boaard’s Orderly Bazar monitoring station was 477 at 5pm on Monday. According to the AQI bulletin released on Monday, the average AQI value of the city was 354.
