Cold wave continues to affect civic life

Varanasi: The cold wave continued to sweep the region on Saturday with icy wind. The city recorded 4 degree Celsius minimum temperature on Saturday and 13 degree Celsius maximum temperature on Friday.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department record, Delhi witnessed 2.4 degree Celsius temperature on Friday morning.  According to the weather warning bulletin of IMD on Saturday,   severe cold day conditions are very likely in most pockets over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, north Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh; Cold day to severe cold day conditions very likely in many pockets over Bihar; in some pockets over West Madhya Pradesh and cold day in some pockets over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim; in isolated pockets over East Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha.

According to IMD forecast, due to persistence of cold northwesterly winds in lower levels over northwest India and other favourable meteorological conditions Cold day to severe cold day conditions in many pockets are very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, north Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh during next 2 days and at isolated to some pockets for subsequent 2 days and very likely to abate from these regions from 30th December onwards. Dense fog at isolated pockets also very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, north Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh during next 3 days and over north Madhya Pradesh, Bihar Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and Odisha during next 2 days and over northeastern India during next 4-5 days and abate thereafter.

♦ Cold wave conditions very likely in some pockets over Bihar and in isolated pockets over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi , north Rajasthan, Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha.

♦ Dense to very dense fog very likely in isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh and Dense fog in isolated pockets over East Uttar Pradesh, north Rajasthan, Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.

♦ A fresh Western Disturbance is very likely to affect the Western Himalayan region from 30th December night onwards. Under the influence of this Western Disturbance and its interaction with lower-level easterlies, major parts of Northwest & Central India are very likely to experience fairly widespread to widespread rainfall accompanied with hailstorm at isolated places during 31st December, 2019-01st January, 2020 and over East India on 02nd January, 2020.
