Varanasi: Olympian and Arjuna Awardee Ashok Dhyan Chand will attend the closing ceremony of East Zone Inter University Hockey (Men) tournament, on October 19, 2019 being played at Banaras Hindu University. BHU Vice Chancellor Prof. Rakesh Bhatnagar will preside over the function at Amphitheatre Hockey Synthetic Turf, University Sports Board.
The tournament which kickstarted on 15th October, 2019, saw about 20 teams from different parts of East Zone battling it out for the prestigious competition. Participating teams were divided into four pools. After the qualifying rounds, only four teams qualified for the super semifinals from each pool. All these four teams would qualify for the All India Inter University Tournament to be held at Gwalior from November 1.
This is for the first time that an inter university tournament is being played in Astro turf ground at Banaras region. Banaras Hindu University has constructed the Synthetic Astro turf ground just a year ago and has organized four tournaments of different levels.
