BHU administration serves warning notice to nine students

Varanasi:  The Banaras Hindu University recently served a warning notice to nine students associated with the Bhagat Singh Chhatra Morcha (BCM) for holding a procession on the campus in support of JNU students in November 2019.

The students, however, opposed the notice alleging that the notice was served because of their opposition to the policy of the Narendra Modi government.

The students had taken out a march under the banner ‘Narendra Modi Shiksha Virodhi’ on November 19, 2019, in support of NJU students’ demand of rollback in fee hike and protest against the police action.

The BHU administration had identified nine students including Nitish Yadav, Anupam Kumar, Kumari Akanksha, Vivek Kumar, Ranjan Kumar Chandravanshi, Raj Abhishek, Sahiley, Dipak Dhanraj, and Ayushi Bhushan involved in taking out the procession.

The vice-chancellor referred the matter to the Standing Committee on Disciplinary Action on Students on November 28, 2019, for enquiry. In its meeting held on December 14, 2019, the committee observed that the procession held by these students was without any permission of the university authorities and affected the daily movement of normal public and others near the Vishwanath Temple on the campus. It resolved to recommend that strict warning be issued to the identified students to prevent themselves from repeating such acts in future, otherwise strict disciplinary action may be taken against them as per university rules.

BHU spokesperson Rajesh Singh said the university has issued the notice as per the rules. The BCM vice president Vishwanath said that as the students opposed the anti-education stand of the government, the notice was served to them.
