Congressmen burn CAB copies

Varanasi: The workers of Youth Congress staged a demonstration in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, which has been passed by Lok Sabha recently, and burnt its copies at Maidagin crossing on Wednesday.

Led by the state general secretary of Youth Congress Raghvendra Chaubey, the Congressmen assembled at Maidagin crossing to express their protest. They alleged that the central government is trying to divide the country by bringing this amendment bill.

The district president Prajanath Sharma and city president Sitaram Keshari, who also took part in the demonstration, said that the government wants to divert people’s attention from important issues like poverty, unemployment, corruption, economy, education by bringing CAS. The Congress strongly opposes this bill, they added.

Chaubey alleged that attempts are being made to impose the communal ideology of RSS through this amendment in the Constitution. The Congress party is committed to protecting the democratic values and constitution, he added.  Several other Congressmen including Durga Prasad Gupta, Arvind Upadhyaya, Rohit Dubey, Kishan Yadav and others took part in the programme.
