Jawahar Bagh in Azamgarh in the making of Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh

Varanasi: The Jawahar Bagh in Bilaraiaganj area of Azhamgarh district turned into a Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh on Tuesday late night witnessing the gathering of scores of women in protest against the newly enacted Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Raising slogans and demanding the roll back of CAA and NRC, they continued staging demonstration and dharna in the open despite the cold weather condition. Though heavy police force has been deployed in the locality, they were seemingly the mute spectators.

The protest began during the day hours, but the gathering of women swelled in late night. They alleged that the Narendra Modi government is doing no good to the Muslim community. The dharna would continue till the CAA/NRC is not withdrawn, they warned.

The policeman deputed at the office of Azamgarh SP Dr Triveni Singh said that adequate police force has been deployed at the Jawahar Bagh to maintain law and order and avert any untoward situation.
