Groom shot before the marriage in Azamgarh

Varanasi: A groom was shot dead by some unidentified miscreants near Masirpur trijunction just before he could reach the bride’s house for the wedding ceremony in Devgaon police station area of Azamgarh district on Tuesday night. The police has launched a manhunt to nab the assailants.

According to reports, the marriage of Sumit Gupta, resident of Singhpur village in Mehnagar area, was fixed with the daughter of Lalbahadur Gupta, resident of Lalganj kasba.

The marriage procession was moving towards the marriage function venue, when two motorcycle-borne miscreants shot at him and fled from the scene. A panic prevailed after the shootout, and Sumit was rushed to the Lalganj Community Health Centre, where he was declared dead.

The baratis and angry family members created a ruckus at the hospital after which the police reached there and brought the situation under control. The body was sent for post mortem.

The police are investigating the matter and motive behind the killing. Azamgarh SP Triveni Singh said that the case would be worked out and miscreants would be nabbed shortly.
