Chandauli: A teenage boy was killed while his friend was injured seriously when a speeding pick-up van ran over them in Chakiya area of Chandauli district on Saturday.
According to reports, Pramod Vishwakarma (18) and Rakesh Bind (16), residents of Garala village, had gone to morning walk on Naugarh road when they were run over by the speeding pick-up van (UP 65 ET 8737). The vand stopped at some distance after the mishap. The driver and khalasi fled from the scene after the accident leaving the van abandoned.
Pramod sustained serious head injuries, while Rakesh sustained injuries on his legs. They were rushed to the Chakiya hospital, where Pramod was declared dead. Rakesh was referred to the Trauma Centre of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) for treatment.
The police seized the pick-up van, and launched a manhunt to nab the absconding driver. The body was sent for postmortem.
