‘Six Yards and 365 days’ Campaign to hold National Meet in Varanasi

Varanasi: Six Yards and 365 days, a unique endeavour to support the weaving community and handloom industry of India, is going to hold its National Meet in Varanasi on Friday. The idea behind this campaign is to encourage women to drape the six yards all 365 days of the year and also encourage the artisans to continue their profession and keep the Indian tradition alive.

This motive drives Six Yards and 365 days to organise Regional Chapter Meets and events across the country and educate people about this beautiful Indian wear. This time it has chosen the holy city of Varanasi, which is famous primarily for two things, Banarasi Silk Sarees and its pristine tradition of temples and spirituality.

Varanasi has witnessed generations of legendary weavers who have contributed immensely in keeping this wonderful heritage of Banarasi sarees alive. The campaign takes pride to honour the weavers and entrepreneurs for their contribution for carrying forward these traditional arts of handloom sarees. Initiated by noted Hindi author and poet Ms Sunita Budhiraja, Six yard and 365 days has invited several artisans of Varanasi and shall felicitate them for their superior work.

According to the organisers, the National meet will begin with honouring the great works of artisans of Banaras followed by a cultural evening meet on the banks of river Ganaga. Many people including Padma Shri Awardee Sribhas Chandra Supakar (Textile designer and Revivalist), National Award winner Master weaver Naseem Ahmed, Veteran weaver of Banarasi Sarees Zaheer Ansari, renowned entrepreneur of Banarasi Handlooms Saeed-urRehman and entrepreneur and designer Bharat Shah will be honoured on the occasion.
