Varanasi: A fake video claiming cane charge on the protesters at Beniabagh park went viral on social media on Thursday after the gathering of people protesting against the CAA and NRC was dispersed by the police.
The district magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma sharing the video on official WhatsApp group clarified that “the video does not belong to Beniabag Varanasi. No cane charging took place in Beniabag today”.
The DM further said, “There was in fact stone pelting by some antisocial elements and shop keepers on lady police when they were taking ladies sitting in Beniabag into their custody. A strong and exemplary action will be taken against stone pelters. Some persons have been identified and others will be identified soon”.
In the meantime the police traced out the person identified as Ashetam, who allegedly circulated the fake video in social media. An FIR was lodged against him at Shivpur police station under sections 295A, 298, 153A, 505 (1)(B) of IPC and 67 IT Act for attempting to breach the peace and affect law and order in the district.
