IIT (BHU) shortlisted as Host Institute (HI) for establishment of a Technology Innovation Hub

Approved by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, Institute will work on Data Analytics and Predictive Technologies.

 

Varanasi: Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University) has been shortlisted as Host Institute (HI) for establishment of a Technology Innovation Hub.

The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India has selected the IIT (BHU) as the host institution under the National Mission for Interdisciplinary Cyber Physical System. Under this, the institute will work on five main areas –Telecommunications, Defence Research and Development, Health and Family welfare, Power and Road Transport and Highways.

A proposal in this regard was sent by the Institute to the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), which has been approved by the Department of Science and Technology. Under this mission, 25 Technology Innovation Hubs will be set up in various educational institutions in the country, under which IIT (BHU) have been selected to work on Data Analytics and Predictive Technologies.

The IIT (BHU) director Prof Pramod Kumar Jain said that the Technology Innovation Hub will prove to be a milestone for the institute. This will promote the start-up culture in the institute and the surrounding educational and technological institutions as well as provide an opportunity for students to work in new fields of research. Under this technology hub, the institute will set up a Section 8 company which will include the Technology Business Incubator.

The main functions of this Technology Innovation Hub are Technology Development through expert-driven research and consortium-based research, Human Resources Development and skill development through UG, PG, PhD and short-term trainings, Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Start-up Ecosystem and International collaboration in research/technology development.

Along with, the Institute has to collaborate with foreign universities such as Henkuk (korea) University of Foreign Studies, University of Pennsylvania, USA, University of Connecticut, USA, Yonsei University, South Korea, Tokyo Institute of Technology,Japan, University of Cambridge, UK etc and five Indian companies such as Cisco System, M/s Amazon web services, M/s Vertiv Energy pvt Ltd, M/s HP India Sales Pvt Ltd, M/s Asrdeep Group of Companies to develop application based projects and services.
