Training on ‘Innovations in Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals’ begins at BHU

Varanasi: A 10-day training programme on ‘Innovations in Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals’ organised by the Department of Dairy Science and Food Technology, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University and sponsored by Indian Council of Agricultural Research began on Wednesday.
Addressing the inaugural function, the former Vice-Chancellor of BHU Prof. Panjab Singh spoke about increasing prevalence of obesity as a result of nutritional imbalance and sedentary lifestyle and also highlighted about the role of functional foods as a new approach to deal with challenges associated with various chronic diseases. 
Prof. Ramesh Chand, Director, Institute of Agricultural Sciences highlighted the usefulness of functional foods and nutraceuticals. Prof. A.P. Singh, Dean, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, discussed about the innovations in the area of functional foods. Prof. Dinesh Chandra Rai, Head, Department of Dairy Science and Food Technology, Institute of Agricultural Sciencess apprised the gathering of the current infrastructure facilities available in the newly established department as well as highlighted the achievements in the area of  research and elaborate the future prospects of the department. 
In this training programme, 26 faculty members and scientists had participated from different reputed institutions across the country. Course Director, Dr. Arvind, gave the detailed information about the course. Course Coordinator, Dr. Abhishek Dutt Tripathi, extended the vote of thanks. The programme was successfully conducted by Ms. Chandrali Mukherjee.
