FRENCH AMBASSADOR TO INDIA CALLS ON BHU VICE CHANCELLOR

Varanasi: French Ambassador to India Emmanuel Lenain on Monday called on Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University Prof Rakesh Bhatnagar. The VC and the ambassador had an exchange of views particularly on ways to enhance collaborations between BHU and French universities.

According to the university spokesperson, the VC told the ambassador that the university is one of most prestigious educational institutions in the country and attracts students not only from across India but foreign countries as well. The has an all-India level admission process and entrance tests for various courses are conducted in different parts of the country.

He informed the visiting dignitary that BHU has been named Institute of Eminence which will pave way for taking the university to new heights with regard to research and innovation infrastructure and facilities. He said that the university has taken a number of measures to ensure that students and faculty members get the best of the facilities. The French ambassador was keen to know about the Department of French and students from France studying in BHU. The VC and the ambassador noted that there is potential to achieve more with regard to collaboration between BHU and French educational institutions.

Rector Prof VK Shukla, Registrar Dr Neeraj Tripathi, Head, Department of French Studies, Prof DK Singh and Prof SP Mathur, Coordinator, International Centre, BHU were also present during the meeting. The ambassador also visited the Department of French studies. The ambassador was accompanied by Ms. Olivia Bellemère, second Counselor for interior policy, Embassy of France.
