BHU holds “RUN FOR CANCER”

Varanasi: In order to spread awareness about cancer and its preventive measures, a 5-kilometer mini marathon was organised by the 3rd year MBBS students of the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University on Sunday.

According to the BHU spokesperson, the main objective of the event was to educate people how prevention and early diagnosis of cancer can help in treating it.

The cancer survivors were felicitated on the occasion. The event witnessed the participation of 600 enthusiasts including teachers, students, senior doctors, NCC cadets, cancer survivors amongst others.

The BHU vice-chancellor Prof Rakesh Bhatnagar flagged off the run. The director of IMS Prof. RK Jain and medical superintendent of Sir Sunderlal Hospital Prof SK Mathur and others attended the event.

Prof. (Major) Anjali Rani donated 100 saplings for the event. The prizes were given out by eminent surgeon Prof AK Khanna. Winners of the event were -student male- Shyam Babu Gupta, student female- Shweta Kumari, Faculty male- Dr Mayank Gupta and Faculty female- Dr Garima Sinha.

National Medicos Organisation, IMS, BHU unit sponsored the Marathon. National Medicos Organisation, a social organisation comprising of medical students and doctors, aims to organise and motivate them for serving the underprivileged sections of the society by a process of adoption of slum areas by individual units and developing a commitment of the members for this noble cause.

The event ended with the declaration of the annual fest of IMS- “Elixir 2020” open which is scheduled to be held from March 22 to 26.
