Azamgarh hospital installs disinfectant tunnel; IIT (BHU) develops full body sanitization device

Varanasi: Lifeline Hospital and Research Centre at Azamgarh has developed and installed a disinfectant tunnel, perhaps first by a private hospital in the state, to check the spread of coronavirus.

“One needs to stay 25 seconds in the tunnel for full body sanitization,” said the hospital manager Dr. Piyush Kumar Singh adding that whenever a person passes through the tunnel he is sanitized by the spray of disinfectants, which is a mixture of Sodium Hypochlorite and PPM.

“Since there is no antidote of COVID-19, prevention and precaution is the only cure of the disease,” said neurosurgeon Dr. Anup Kumar Singh. The tunnel would help in checking the spread of the coronavirus, he said adding that it is useful for all including the medical professionals and health workers. According to hospital management, the tunnel was made at the cost of around Rs. 15,000.

The IIT (BHU) has also developed a full body sanitization device to battle against COVID-19. Jeetu Shukla, an incubate of Malaviya Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (MCIIE) at IIT(BHU) also developed the device that can be used to sanitize the entire body.

This sensor-based device can be mounted anywhere and it works in an automated manner. The coordinator Prof. PK Mishra said that the sensor would automatically detect a person coming in front of the device that will spray 10-15 ml of sanitizer for 15 seconds. “Validation of the dose, exposure time, frequency is under process. However, even after being sanitized with this device, one is required to wear masks, make social distancing and wash hands with soap at regular intervals,” he said.
