FIR lodged in PCS-officer suicide case

Ballia: An FIR has been lodged against the chairman of Maniyar Nagar Panchayat Bhim Gupta, tax clerk Vinod Singh, computer operator Akhilesh, executive officer Sikandarpur Sanjay Rao, driver and others at Kotwali police station on Wednesday in connection with the suicide of a PCS officer.

The executive officer of Maniyar Nagar Panchayat Manimanjari Rai (30) was found hanging in her room on Tuesday morning. After postmortem her body was handed over to the family for cremation.

The FIR lodged on the basis of complaint of her brother Vijayanand Rai. The accused have been booked under section 306 (abetment of suicide) of IPC. In his complaint it was alleged that the MNP chairman Bhim Gupta, some contractors and office employees were exerting pressure on her to adopt unfair means for allotting contracts of development works. Rai alleged that as her sister opposed their bid, they were unhappy with her. She had also requested the district magistrate to attach her with district headquarters. When she resumed the charge after three months, she came to know that many payments had been issued with the help of her fake signatures.

He further alleged that floating tenders were proposed for the works worth of Rs two crore. As the MNP board could not pass any proposal, the tender process could not be initiated. The chairman prepared proposals for 35 works and started pressurizing her to issue order for execution of works without following tender process. Of these 18 works were given to single contractor. When she made a complaint to DM in this regard, Rao also started pressurizing her in favour of the chairman.

The district magistrate Hari Pratap Shahi said that the police would investigate this case in light of the of allegations levelled by her family.
