Hooch unit unearthed in Mirzapur

Mirzapur: A hooch manufacturing unit was unearthed by police and excise department officials at a cowshed in Pandeypur Lathiyahva locality in Dehat Kotwali police station area on Tuesday night.

The police arrested six persons, while four others including the kingpin managed to flee. Besides prepared hooch worth of Rs. 27 lakh, the police also recovered other articles used in manufacturing.

According to Mirzapur SP Dharmvir Singh, the cowshed is owned by Keshav Gupta, who was arrested during the raid.  Other arrested persons were identified as Santosh Yadav, Sanjay Maurya, Dheeraj Kumar Maurya, Rajendra Kumar Maurya and Vindhyavasini Kasera. The kingpin Anup Malviya and Rakesh Gupta along with their two aides Kamlesh and Pankaj Maurya managed to escape.

The raiding team recovered 4400 litres of spirit stocked in 80 drums, 2233 filled bottles of illicit liquor, two cars and one SUV, one e-rickshaw, lables of country liquor brands, Rs 23,000 in cash, barcode stickers, chemical colours, empty bottles and caps, and other packaging materials from the spot.

During interrogation the arrested persons disclosed that Anup Kumar Malviya alias Tiger and Rakesh Kumar Gupta were major investor in their trade as they ensured supply of spirit to other gang members, who used to prepare illicit liquor and pack it in the bottles to sell in the name of brands from licensed country liquor shops. They had been running their hooch manufacturing unit by changing locations for past two years.

This gang used to supply the hooch to the country liquor shops in the areas like Sakteshgarh, Gaipura, Naarghat in Mirzapur, Korao, Hata Bazar and Manda in Prayagraj, Markundi in Sonbhadra and other districts. The income from this illegal trade was being invested in real estate and other works.
