Absconding prisoner arrested in Ballia

Ballia: In a major breakthrough on Thursday morning, the police caught a prisoner, who had escaped from the district jail on January 5, near Kajipur railway crossing after he sustained a bullet injury in exchange of fire.

The arrested prisoner Bechu Ram, who carried a reward of Rs. 50,000, was wanted in 30 criminal cases in Ballia and Mau districts. The reward was announced on him after he fled from the jail. He had escaped from the jail by cutting grills of ventilator. The incident had come to light during the morning counting parade of prisoners inside the jail. The prison officials lodged a case against him. He was also booked under Gangster Act in the past.

According to the superintendent of police Vipin Tada, Ram had also conspired for a murder from the jail a few months ago. Acting on a tip off, the Kotwali inspector Vipin Singh and SWAT in-charge Rajkumar Singh cordoned Kajipur railway crossing and started a massive checking drive early in the morning. The police noticed him with his aide while passed through the area and asked to stop, but instead of surrendering, he opened fire on the police team. The police also retaliated and Ram sustained bullet injuries on his leg. He fell on the ground from the motorcycle, while his accomplice managed to flee from the scene.

The police recovered a pistol and live cartridges and a motorcycle at the encounter site. He was taken to the district hospital for treatment. During interrogation, he confessed his involvement in many crime cases and also taking contract for the killing a person while in jail and executing murder plan with the help of his shooters.
