Prof Vijay Kumar Shukla to perform the functions of the office of the VC BHU

Varanasi: On completion of his tenure, Prof Rakesh Bhatnagar, Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) relinquished the post of Vice Chancellor on March 28. As per provision of the BHU Act, Rector of the University Prof Vijay Kumar Shukla, shall perform the functions of the office of the VC BHU.

Born on 11 July 1951 Prof Rakesh Bhatnagar is a renowned scientist, an academician par excellence and an active researcher who was the 27th Vice Chancellor of the Banaras Hindu University.

During the period of Vice-Chancellorship of Prof. Bhatnagar, the University has seen accelerated developmental initiatives on various fronts some notable ones include upgradation of the Institute of Medical Science (IMS) into an AIIMS like Institution; establishment of a 430 bedded Centenary Superspeciality Hospital, a Central Discovery Centre to house state of the art equipment, Atal Incubation Centre, a Vaidik Vijnan Kendra, Bone Marrow Transplant Centre, 8 MW Solar Power Plant, 300 teachers flat (224 more are near completion); implementation of ERP.

Besides these several new initiatives are underway like a Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, a 450 room girls’ hostel. Towards societal inclusiveness of BHU campus for the promotion of national integration he has extended the reach of the entrance examination through introduction of online entrance examination in BHU signed agreement for erecting zero carbon 3.5 MW trash to electricity power plant to promote Swachha Bharat, signed agreement with Tenacity Venture fund USA to invest in health care innovation and medical tourism with BHU. Under his leadership BHU has been awarded with Institute of Eminence and ranked among top three Universities in country in NIRF Ranking.

University organized a farewell to honour him where EC Members, Court Members, Directors, Deans, Registrar, Controller of Exam, Finance Officer, Chief Proctor and other officers of the University were present. Prof. Bhatnagar, in his address, extended his gratitude towards the entire University family and also extended his best wishes for the future.
