International Nurses Day Special

VARANASI: With theme “A Voice to Lead”, the world will extend the gratitude to all the nurses working day night to mark the International Nurses Day. The International Nurses Day (IND) is an international day observed around the world on 12 May (the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth) of each year, to mark the contributions that nurses make to society. She was born on May 12, 1820. The nursing is a duty not to only work for money but to look after someone whom they have never met or even has no relation.

In this pandemic time, the courageous humans are the nurse who have not even worried about their lives and served the ailing people 24X7. They stand by the patients. They not only serve medicines but also become strength to fight and return home.

A 58-year-old nurse Kanchan Jaiswal from district Mirzapur, started her work of serving the people in 1986 as staff nurse at the District Women Hospital Varanasi. Currently she is posted as Assistant Nursing Superintendent. She said that since March last year till today she has been on her duty and serving the nation. Under her supervision the corona wards are made and she is looking after the corona patients. When she reaches home after her duty, she sanitizes herself and maintains the distance with her family members. She never takes her work home. Three more nurses, Usha Maurya (59), Indumati Singh (58) and Pushpa Devi (59) are there who have the same designated post and duties towards the patients.

She elaborated the difficulties she had face while treating the patients who are pregnant and suffering from the chronic disease which has high risk of life danger. Looking after the patients is the whole soul responsibility of the nurse. She also mentioned that while they are treating the patient the situation is quite challenging. For serving medicines, taking blood samples and giving right doses of medicines are the duties they have to perform for which they stay awaken for day and night and develop the family like relation with the patients. More of her words she marked happily when the patients return home with their family members. Kanchan appealed to all for following the guidelines against the pandemic and stay safe.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. V.B. Singh admires the contribution and the duties that nurses are fulfilling at this pandemic. Patients suffering from corona mostly faces ups and downs in mid-nights for which the nurses are always ready to handle the situation. They are fulfilling their duties whole heartedly throughout this pandemic.
