BHU to restart oncology surgery from May 19

OT was closed after the outbreak of COVID-19

 

Varanasi: The operation theatre of the department of oncology surgery at the Sir Sunderlal Hospital, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University will start functioning again from May 19. The surgical oncology OT was closed after the outbreak of COVID-19.

The hospital administration has made all necessary precautionary arrangements as per the protocol of COVID-19. According to the BHU spokesperson Rajesh Singh, the director of the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) Prof. RK Jain and medical superintendent of Sir Sunderlal Hospital Prof. SK Mathur took stock of the reopening preparations. The operation theatre has been sterilized properly before its reopening.

The head of the department Dr. Manoj Pandey said that all the medicos and supporting staff have been made aware of the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other essential precautions during surgery in this critical time of COVID-19. They have also been trained for personal safety from COVID-19 and disposal of biomedical wastes after surgery. Before surgery every patient would have to undergo the COVID-19 test, he added.
