One more COVID-19 positive case detected in Varanasi

BHU microbiology lab closed for three days after a lady scientist tested positive; the number of positive cases rises to 61 and hotspots 25

Varanasi: With the detection of a fresh COVID-19 positive case on Friday, the number of total cases in the district climbed to 61 and number of hotspots rose to 25. A lady scientist of BHU’s microbiology laboratory, where COVID-19 samples from 13 districts of eastern UP are tested, found positive.

The district magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said that all 13 staff of the lab were tested and they were found negative. However, the lab has been closed for three days for proper sanitisation. After the closure of this lab the samples of Varanasi and Chandauli district will be sent to KGMU Lucknow, while the samples of other 11 districts will be sent to other labs of the state until BHU lab is reopened. The DM said that new batch of doctors and lab technician are being trained to run BHU lab when it will be opened after three days.

In initial contact tracing it was found that some of her family member had suffered from fever, and she also fell ill. However, the other members of the family were found negative when tested.
