CM Yogi reviews COVID-19 situation

Varanasi: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath visited Varanasi on Sunday and held a meeting at Banaras Hindu University to review the COVID-19 situation. He asked the BHU authorities to increase number of beds up to 300 in the COVID-19 facility level-3. He also asked to start non-Covid outdoor patient department at the hospital.

The CM told BHU and district administrations to improve their coordination for betterment in treating COVID-19 patients. He said that BHU is capable in serving the people of not only east UP but also adjoining states like Bihar. The state government is ready to extend all facility to BHU in this regard. By increasing RTPCR tests BHU should set an example for other institutions, he added.

CM asked the officials to engage minimum two teams of health department in each ward of the city to conduct door-to-door survey and rapid test of people having any symptom of COVID-19. It will not only help in providing timely treatment to the needy but also checking the mortality rate.

Earlier, while reviewing the COVID-19 situation in Azamgarh, Ballia and Mau district at a meeting with officials in Ballia, the CM sought reason from Ballia officials for not establishing temporary jail so far despite the directives issued to all districts in this regard. He asked DIG Azamgarh range Subhash Chadra Dubey to examine the reason for fast spread of COVID-19 inside Ballia jail.

He asked to ensure 1000-1500 lab testing in Ballia and Azamgarh and at least 1000 in Mau per day. Emphasising on intensifying contact tracing and door-to-door surveys he asked the officials to increase beds in level-2 facility and ensure availability of oxygen in L-1 facilities. He asked to begin L-2 facility in Mau immediately.

He directed the health director Dr Rajendra Kapoor to streamline all arrangements within 48 hours and asked to 100% contact tracing in all three districts with the collection of proper details. He said that no laxity should be performed in providing clean toilet facility, quality food, arrangements of entertainment like television and newspapers in all COVID-19 facilities. He also reviewed the arrangements of ambulances, method of payment to ambulance staff, integrated Covid command centres, surveillance system and data feeding.

Yogi asked the divisional commissioner and DIG Azamgarh range to visit any of the district of their area of jurisdiction everyday instead of staying at their headquarters only to monitor all these works. He asked to intensify drive against those avoiding mask and improve CCTV network in and around Covid facilities to keep vigil on activities taking place there on mobile phones. He directed the officials to ensure that no delay is caused in cremation of the bodies of infected patients.

Yogi sought explanation from officials for not beginning RTPCR lab in Azamgarh so far and asked to establish it in Azamgarh and Ballia also. He assured the officials that they would get 10000 antigen test kits on every tenth day. He asked to keep extra focus on Ballia city and Rasda area of the district to check the spread of epidemic.
