Rewarded criminal caught in Chandauli

Chandauli: A hardcore criminal Raj Narayan Yadav alias Raju, who carried a reward of Rs. 25,000, was nabbed in Mughalsarai area of Chandauli district in the wee hours on Friday.

The arrested criminal sustained bullet injury in his leg during encounter, while his associate managed to escape. He was admitted to the trauma centre in Varanasi.

According to reports, the police across the state swung into action after the Kanpur encounter in which eight policemen were martyred. The Chandauli police were also conducting a checking drive when they encountered the criminals around 3 am.

According to Chandauli ASP Prem Chand,  a police team led by Mughalsarai inspector Shivanand Mishra was conducting a checking drive near Samajwadi Party office when the criminals were seen on a motorcycle.

The criminals opened fire on police party when they tried to stop them. The bullet breaking the windscreen of the vehicle hit the seat. No one was hurt in firing. The police chased the criminals and intercepted them near Chakia trisection. In exchange of fire Raju criminal sustained bullet injury in his right leg, and his aide fled from the scene.

The arrested criminal is the resident of Piyari locality in Varanasi. He was involved in many cases of crime including murder, loot and attempt to murder in Varanasi and Ghazipur district. The police launched a manhunt to nab the absconding criminal.
