Mukhtar’s aide arrested in Varanasi

Varanasi: The police arrested three persons including an aide of mafia don turned MLA Mukhtar Ansari from Banglow-51 in Cantonment area on Monday. The arrested person Mohammad Salim is a fish trader.

Salim had given guarantee for Mukhtar’s bail 20 years ago. He had also contested assembly election in 2012 on the ticket of don’s former political outfit  Qaumi Ekta Dal.

The police recovered prohibited species of fishes reared illegally in a pond in the premises of bungalow. Besides, a huge quantity of eggs stocked illegally was also recovered. He also allegedly extorted money from fish traders.

According to the SSP Prabhakar Chawdhary, acting on a specific input regarding illegal trading of fish and eggs, a joint team of the officials of district administration, food and drugs administration, fishery department and police raided Bungalow-51.

The police recovered 6.50 quintals of Mangur fish worth Rs one lakh, 5.50 quintals of other prohibited species of fishes worth of Rs 1.10 lakh, stock of eggs worth of Rs 2.10 lakhs, Rs 59,610 in cash, two vans for transportation, an SUV and two motorcycles. Along with Salim his two aides Rajesh Kumar Vishwakarma and Anand Kumar were also arrested on the spot.

Salim had taken Bungalow-51 on lease, where he created pond to store fishes of banned species. A separate investigation on the lease documents of the bungalow has also been started. Salim is also an accused in a case of murder attempt, and a case of violation of model code of conduct had also been lodged against him in 2012.
