Kashi’s son saves J&K toddler

Varanasi: Pawan Kumar Chaubey, a CoBRA Commando of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) whose picture rescuing a toddler from the bullets of terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir had gone viral on social media, hails from a village of Varanasi.

The photograph of a CRPF jawan rescuing a child had gone viral on social media. The terrorists had attacked a petrol party in Sopore on Wednesday. The child was travelling in a car with his grandfather when the gunfire erupted. The terrorists also opened fire at the car, in which child’s grandfather was killed on the spot. A CRPF personnel also got martyred in the encounter.

The CRPF 95 Battalion commandant Narendra Pal Singh, who went to meet his family members at his ancestral village Goldhamakawan in Chaubeypur area on Thursday, congratulated the family for Pawan’s bravery and humanity. Pawan had safely rescued a three-year-old child from the gunfire of terrorists in Sopor in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

Pawan’s father Subhash Chaubey said that the entire family is proud of him for saving the child by risking his own life. He has been busy in receiving congratulatory message since the news went viral on social media. The family also received a phone call from Pawan on Thursday morning, and knew his well-being. Pawan’s wife Shubhangi Chaubey said that her eyes filled with tears when heard the way he rescued the kid from getting hurt by bullets.

Pawan has been involved in many operations in Jammu and Kashmir since 2016. He had joined the force in 2010. After dealing with Naxals he was transferred to J&K in 2016. Earlier, he was in 203 CoBRA battalion of CRPF which is an anti-Naxal battalion specially raised to deal with Naxalism.
