BHU and FAARD sign agreement
Varanasi: The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and the Foundation for Advancement of Agriculture and Rural Development (FAARD), a nongovernmental organization, signed a document of agreement on Tuesday to prepare a roadmap for the agriculture and rural development by undertaking project/training programmes, technology transfer and other outreach programmes of rural development.
The university spokesperson Rajesh Singh said that the agreement was signed in presence of the BHU vice chancellor Prof. Rakesh Bhatnagar, FAARD president and former BHU vice chancellor and chancellor of Rani Laxmibai Central Agricultural University, Jhansi Prof. Panjab Singh. The agreement was signed by the FAARD president and BHU registrar Dr. Neeraj Tripathi. The director of the Institute of Agricultural Sciences Prof. Ramesh Chandra, dean Prof. AP Singh former director Prof. SR Singh, FAARD Trustee Dr. Umesh singh and other were present on the occasion.
After the agreement, the BHU with its laboratory and other infrastructure of the Institute of Agricultural Sciences would work together with FAARD to develop a futuristic roadmap for the farming sector. The agricultural students of BHU would make field visits to the places of FAARD supported progressive farmers. It would help in preparing a baseline survey of the farmers.

The FAARD has been holding various technical and training programmes for farmers since 2005. It has been providing technical support to 18 Farmers Producers Organisations (FPOs), and providing services to other farmers groups of eastern UP to make them self-reliant.
Presently, the FAARD in collaboration with the Indian Institute Vegetable Research (IIVR) of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is engaged in works like providing improved seeds to farmers, organizing training programmes and technical demonstration under Biotech Kisan Pariyojna of the department of biotechnology for the promotion of Agri export.
