BHU Institute of Science celebrates its 5th Institute Day

Varanasi: The Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University, celebrated its 5th Institute day on Wednesday. The Institute day lecture was delivered by Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. Of India, while Prof. Rakesh Bhatnagar, Vice chancellor, Banaras Hindu University presided over the function.

Prof Ashutosh Sharma delivered a lecture on ‘Science and Technology in the Time of Virus: Lessons to Take Forward’. He talked about the future challenges in research and development. He also emphasized on the importance of self-dependence, self-confidence, and introspection to carry out better work in respective fields.

The director Prof. AK Tripathi highlighted the achievements of Institute during last one year. He also announced the name of faculty members from Institute of Science and felicitated them, whose work has been cited in world’s top 2 %.  Faculty members who got fellowships and teacher award from various academies were also felicitated on the occasion.

The BHU vice chancellor Prof. Rakesh Bhatnagar announced the name of two prestigious rotating professor awards. The first Prof. C.N.R. Rao rotating Professor award was given to Prof. MS Singh from Chemistry Department, while Shri Sant Sanganeria award was given to Prof. Anchal Shrivastava from Physics Department. The donors of these two awards, Prof. C.N.R. Rao and Shri Sant Sanganeria also expressed their views on the occasion. The ceremony was concluded by the presidential remarks of the VC.

Earlier, Prof. M. Joshi, Dean, welcomed to all esteemed guests on behalf of Institute of Science, while the vote of thanks was given by Prof. J.K. Roy, Head, Department of Zoology.
