The USA extends support to India with medical aid
New Delhi: The world’s largest military aircraft from Travis Air Force Base (USA) arrived at New Delhi with several emergency COVID-19 relief shipments for India. The second wave of coronavirus has spread rapidly across the globe and helping each other will be a key element against fighting Coronavirus.
As defeating COVID-19 is a common goal, countries with resources are providing necessary aids to other countries. India has been at the forefront in providing a helping hand. India has provided vaccines under its Vaccine Maitri initiative to over 90 countries but this time India is on the receiving end as the USA supplies emergency aid to India.
On 26 April 2021, President Joe Biden said in a tweet “Just as India sent assistance to the United States as our hospitals were strained early in the pandemic, we are determined to help India in its time of need.”
A COVID-19 relief shipment from the USA containing life-saving medical supplies arrived in New Delhi on 30 April 2021. The Shipment includes 200 Size D oxygen cylinders with regulators, 223 Size H oxygen cylinders with regulators, 210 pulse oximeters, 184,000 Abbott Rapid Diagnostic Test Kits, and 84,000 N-95 face masks. This will help Covid patients and frontline healthcare workers across India.
The USA has supplied two different types of oxygen cylinders, Size D oxygen cylinders, and Size H oxygen cylinders. The capacity of the size D oxygen cylinder is 350 liters. Whereas the capacity of size H oxygen cylinder is 6,900 liters.
Over 40 countries have come to India’s aid to help the nation against the deadly virus. Romania has sent a consignment of 80 oxygen concentrators and 75 oxygen cylinders to India. Whereas, the UK has sent the third shipment containing 280 oxygen concentrators which arrived on 30 April 2021.
Japanese ambassador to India Satoshi Suzuki expressed solidarity with India & offered relief support including 300 oxygen generators & 300 ventilators to mitigate the challenges posed by the pandemic.
