First COVID-19 positive case reported in Kashi

 

Varanasi: The first COVID-19 positive case was found in Varanasi on Saturday. He has been admitted to the of DDU district hospital.

According to the district magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma, the 30-year-old youth is a native of Chitaura village under Phoolpur police station area of Pindra tehsil.  He had reached Delhi from Dubai on March 17, and arrived Varanasi on March 18.

After reaching home he suffered from cough, and went to the DDU district hospital on March 19. His sample was sent to BHU lab for testing. He was confirmed positive on Saturday late evening. The DM said that teams of doctors and health staff were rushed to isolate the village by putting the villagers in home quarantine. The sampling of his family members, and thermal screening of all villagers will take place on Sunday morning.

Meanwhile three more suspected COVID-19 cases on Saturday and one case on Friday were reported to the Sir Sunderlal Hospital of Banaras Hindu University. They were admitted to the isolation ward after sampling. Their reports are awaited. Earlier, 25 persons were tested negative and discharged from the hospital.

Meanwhile, the DM  directed the 39 corporators for home quarantine for 14 days. These corporators returned to the city on Friday after a 10-day ‘exposure visit’ to Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.

The DM wrote a letter to them asking to remain in isolation in their respective homes for 14 days. The health teams are being sent to their houses for thermal scanning.  They were advised to informed immediately to the control room if they develop symptoms like dry cough, cold and fever.

The also held a meeting with the representatives of private hospitals and laboratories on Saturday to discuss the preparedness for battle against the corona virus. They were asked to be ready to provide their services in case of emergency.
