A Floating Solar energy exhibition in the Ganga organized

 

Varanasi: A unique floating solar energy exhibition was organized at Assi Ghat in the river Ganga on Friday. Messages to increase the use of solar energy in every sphere of the society and to keep environment safe were disseminated through the attractive exhibition organized in the middle of the Ganga in Varanasi, which is also declared as solar city by the state government.

Organized by Climate Agenda, an organization striving for protection of environment, this exhibition was inaugurated by District Project Officer of UPNEDA, Ranvijay Singh. Exhibition reached at all important Ghats while complying fully with Covid-19 guidelines.

 

Talking about Suraj se samriddhi Abhiyan the campaign chief Ekta Shekhar said, “Under its energy policy the State govt has made several announcements for full cooperation in pursuit of solar energy goals of the country by 2024. Along with it, it has also been announced by the govt. to make 5 solar cities including Varanasi. Suraj se Samriddhi campaign is being conducted in 9 cities of the state to make sure that the benefit reaches the eligible and solar energy can become possibility at all levels in the society. It is also one of the major goals of the campaign that other important cities of the state be included in the solar city program announced by the government last year.”

Flagging off the energy exhibition, well decorated in nine boats, District Project Officer of UPNEDA, Ranvijay Singh, “The state government seeks to promote solar energy in all areas. Work is underway as per announcement to make Varanasi a Solar City and results have also began to catch the eyes.” He also added that almost 12 MW solar rooftop capacity has already been added in the city. Praising the campaign and exhibition, Singh said, “It is the need of the hour to make the people aware through such activities. It is utmost necessary to connect the people with such awareness programs so that the benefit of policy announcements reaches the beneficiary.

Five cities of the state were announced to be made Solar Cities by the state government by June 2020. According to Solar Energy Policy of the state, the goal to generate 10,500-megawatt electricity was set up by the year 2022. Nothing exceptional has been done at the state level so far to achieve the above said target. It is clear from various reports that slow progress in the field of solar energy in the Uttar Pradesh is holding against the meeting of solar energy goals of India. Therefore, it is necessary that big cities like Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Meerut be also included in the list of solar cities.

The program was mainly attended by Saniya Anwar, Tabassum, Brijesh Patel, Ritesh Dwivedi, Sunil Kumar, Raj Abhishek, Dhananjay Tripathy, Diwakar Singh, Mukesh Upadhyay, Indu Pandey Ravi Shekhar along with scores of youth.
